Fear and its Limitations

For centuries, mankind has originated from archaic, traditional ways of living to now more evolved immersion and involvement. The neanderthals that once wondered this Earth knew not of how mankind would stem from their simple set of choices they had to make – primarily out of fear.

neanderthals used fear to learn and grow

Look where we are now, more evolved than ever and there are no signs of slowing down.

How incredible!

There are some questions we need to ask to dive into how this unfolds, because the only constant has been primal instincts – specifically our response to fear:

  • Could we infer that at our pre-developed stage of civilization the choices that had to be made were within what life presented at that time?
  • Are we, today, challenged to make similar choices to those of our ancestors given our set of challenges?
  • We know that life has become easier and more convenient, however, is that to our benefit?
  • How has fear played a role in the development of mankind?

Another angle would be how has the response to certain triggers in life become beneficial, or detrimental.

Thats it!

Evolution of the Fight or Flight Response to Fear

Our response to the environment around us is one way to take in our own response to fear. Take a look at yourself, you’ve had to endure some obstacles in your own life that’s either caused you to battle up or run for the fences. What drives this response?

lions, tigers, bears are no longer a sense of fear

It’s not as if today we’ve got predators to run from anymore like we once had. No tigers, no bears, or lizards to run from today, yet we still run. Run from what? Run from who? Ourselves? Other people?

We live in such easy times, our ancestors would laugh at the shit we run to avoid today.

And we’ve got it easy, yeah right! I mean really, the challenges we face today: what outfit to wear, what to post to our socials, who we friend and befriend, where we decide to travel to, how much in taxes we pay, confronting people who do us wrong, etc.. the list goes on and it’s quite laughable.

Vanity overcomes the needs to adapt and subjugate our fears to our strengths

I’ve had my fair share of running in life from fears and when I look back as to figuring out what I was running from – I sit back and shake my head. I really thought this would be something that breaks my life apart.

What a joke! Get it together!

Learning from Our Mechanical Response to Stimuli

Fear, or fight/flight response, is the mechanism that in real time we evaluate what in life is presenting a challenge or opportunity. Mustering up the confidence and energy is the choice we have to make to overcome what stands before us. This relates back to those intangible attributes that make us those who seem to achieve all they set out to make happen. This doesn’t mean you aren’t a part of the community of achievers, it simply means your approach to overcoming adversity is flawed and should be re-evaluated in order to progress forward.

A wise man once said, “once you become fearless life becomes limitless.” I think that man knew that what others thought him was irrelevant in his development as a person, so should you!

Let’s be real, life isn’t perfect and quite frankly what service would a perfect life provide for us anyhow? Life is full of challenges and obstacles that require us to mutter up the courage to say, “fuck that, I’m going in and not looking back and whatever happens happens. I’m tired of the life I’m living, things need to change, so I need to change.”

overcome your phobias by breaking barriers

The limits we impose on ourselves are so disempowering that as we continue to fuel them, things in our life seem to get worse. Let go and free yourself from the restraints, your own restraints. To get different results, you must try a different approach! To get where you seek, from where you are and what you’ve been doing, you’ve got to switch your tactics up. It sometimes requires you to learn, unlearn, and relearn things that will be advantageous to your pursuit. Give it a try. Document it, and before you know it life will become your canvas!

Fear, the self imposed limit to our limitless ceiling.
