Immortal Archetypes

What is Immortal Archetypes?

Immortal Archetypes is a nomenclature that lays on top of classical Socionics theory. We found Socionics terminology to be confusing, complicated, and hard for people to grasp without years of study, and even more years to learn how to use it! So we changed that.

Archetypal Triad

There are 3 components that constitute psychological "type".

Affect

Is the energy directed toward one's desires?
Or is it directed toward one's responsibilities?
Is the energy about quality?
...or is it about quantity?

Focus

Does this person seem focused...

...on the practical?
...the intellectual?
...people?
...or the causal?

Values

Is the person disruptive?
...wholesome?
...improving?
...ambitious?

So What is Socionics?

Socionics is a personality theory that was built on Carl Jung's Psychological Types &  Antoni Kępiński's Information Metabolism (IM)

Founder of Socionics

Aušra Augustinavičhūitė (ENTp ILE) was the founder of Socionics in the 1970's, when she combined different knowledge of the human psyche into one structural theory and then the model. The real development of Socionics occured in the 80's with contributions from Talanov, Gulenko, and Aušra.

Socionics is based upon the idea that a person's character acts like a block called "psychological functions," which are based in both Carl Jung's psychological types as well as the theory of the Id, Super-Ego, and Ego from Sigmund Freud.

Different ways of combining these functions result in different ways of accepting and producing information, which in turns, results in a different behavior patterns and thus different character types & motivations.

What About Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Other Personality Systems?

Most people find Socionics through the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). The MBTI is most widely known for its proliferation of the "16 Personality Types" that were established through Katharine Briggs and Isabel Briggs-Myers. MBTI has been one of the most prominent personality theories in the United States.

MBTI brought forward a new light on personality types, using standard dichotomies such as Extroverted/Introverted, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling, and Judging/Perceiving into the forefront to attempt to classify the way people act and behave. However, it was very much conditional and depended on the setting that the person was answering the instrument. The type diagnostics and underlying theory did not play a prominent enough role to make it a consistent theory; albeit it had a major impact on self-awareness.

Socionics incorporated information metabolism, and as a result - the diagnostic procedures were easier to spot and detect, resulting in a more consistent type regardless of setting. This altered the nomenclature and captured a different meaning. In other words, what one may refer to as "Extroverted Feeling" in MBTI is not equal to "Extroverted Ethics" in Socionics. Be careful to understand the differences in both systems.

MBTI vs. Socionics

Keirsey Temperaments

Temperaments date back to the Classical Greek era, primarily from Hippocrates. These were originally thought to be certain "blood/ body fluid types" that carried temperament ultimately resulting in a personality type. However, as time progressed Dr. Keirsey led this into his psychological types based on these temperaments, resulting in 16 types. Although fascinating, it doesn't cover how information is processed and ultimately results in development of type and character over the long-haul.

Classical Carl Jung

Carl Jung designed his original personality types way before any other personality system really came into fruition. His theory was interlaced with the collective unconscious, dreams, the shadow, and often "mystical" components. His theory goes deep and has its place, but stands to complete more of the psyche into "transcendence" through the "5th" function. In other words, leans more to  spiritual ascendence - less about personality type or information metabolism.

What is My Socionics Type?

The quest for finding one's type can take years. People who are interested in type theory can take online tests over and over again, and keep falling short of a result that simply doesn't make sense or they keep getting inconsistent results. "It depends on my mood" they say. So the problem is that a believe that personality type is not fixed, and it's flexible. This is true to an extent, but only the extent that which one's identity, values, beliefs, and skills change. The way someone metabolizes (processes) information never changes.

***Disclaimer: You should never rely solely on an instrument (test) to determine your type.

How Do I Figure Out My Type?

Most people who are interested in the theory spend years attempting to master the theory and their self-awareness to be able to type themselves. However, an outside opinion from someone who understands the model can certainly speed up this process.

The challenge is that since Socionics is an open-source system that has had many contributors, there are many schools of thought and alternating standards - which can cause confusion.

Socionics Type Relationships

One of the most important aspects of Socionics is the relations between types. What that means in other words - is that since certain TIMs (types of information metabolism) are processing information differently, there may be challenges in communication & values. Below are the relations between types (each will be defined at a certain point).

The good news is that if you're communication is rather seamless, then there may be another issue residing, which can be discovered and addressed through Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). More information on NLP can be found by clicking here

Communication within Socionics Types

Why does it sometimes seem that no matter how hard and effectively you package your words - some people seem to just not understand what you're saying? It is easy to discount these people and it might even bring you to a point where you feel the need to remove them from your team. But there is a better way.

It might come as a surprise that is also doesn't necessarily mean that you're a bad communicator.  One of the most important, yet overlooked qualities of an effective relationship, group, team, or even organization is effective communication. Learning Socionics can certainly help you improve this communication with most people - or to deliver your meaning in a way that is impactful.

World Socionics Society is a collective of individuals who are working toward setting the standard of typing individual methods in the West (Western Europe and the Americas). They aim to establish a common language in one of the most advanced personality theories on the planet.
